February is American Heart Month. With your 2021 New Year’s resolutions, focus on keeping your heart healthy and lower your risk for heart disease and heart attack.
According to the latest medical research, you can lower your risk for heart disease by following these healthy guidelines:
Eat clean and maintain a healthy weight.
- Add more fruits and vegetables.
- Limit processed foods.
- Look for the Heart Check certification mark on packaged foods. This mark helps you make healthier choices.
- Cook at home and eat out less.
- Cook healthier versions of your favorite takeout meals at home.
- Lower your alcohol consumption and limit to no more than two drinks per day.
- Schedule your annual wellness check with your healthcare provider.
- Take your medications as prescribed.
- Monitor your blood pressure.
- Discuss with your healthcare provider how you can control and lower your cholesterol and blood pressure.
Get moving and aim for 30 minutes of exercise per day.
